New art project

I'm starting a new garden art project. The pot is about 3 feet tall and pretty wide. It's going to be a Aquarium Pot and I'm going to bore you with it's progress. I cut 4 fish out of wedi board and scored them. Barbara Dybala did a video about this on her facebook page. Thank you, Bubbles. Then covered them in mastic. Here's my photos.

Mosaic pot in the garden

This old pot decided it wasn't pretty enough and mosaiced itself. Perhaps a few more tiles? Nope, this is the perfect look.

Mosaic bowl for butterflies

This is one of my favorites. Love the colors, kind of organic. I can imagine butterflies watching themselves in the reflections as they drink.

Extreme weather and mosaics

I mosaiced this bowling ball and was really delighted with it. Then I left it outside during our extreme winter weather this year. And that was the end of the tiles sticking. Lesson learned: bring some artwork inside if you're not sure it can withstand Extreme Weather.

Outside mosaic wall

OK, I admit, I'm on a mosaic kick.

Bowling ball mosaic

Another bowling ball I mosaiced. Though it survived several years outside, the very cold weather we had last winter made a lot of the tiles slide off. I use to enjoy the picture because it reminded me of what the mosaic ball looked like in tact. Now I enjoy it for the snow.

Another mosaic column

Isn't this wonderful? Your eye just keeps seeing something new. Another piece of art at the Robert Bellamy design studio.

Garden club field trip

Robert Bellamy road trip for the Forest Hills Garden Club. Isn't this a wonderful mosaic? Every thing I saw I wanted to go home and try to do. We all did. We didn't.

SNOW DAY

Here's Tic Tac Hearts in the snow before noon. Then my rain gauge later that afternoon. Unfortunately I didn't take the glass tube out and it cracked. Interesting how the snow clings to the curve. Because we have power, I can say we are really enjoying the snow.

Don't forget to post your name for Barbara Dybala's cement mixer comment section.

3:00 am rants

It's 3:00 am and I'm waiting for a process to dry a bit before going back outside to my shop and more work. While I'm working I'm figuring out excuses for why I'll be the only person on the list of artists who doesn't have a piece in the sculpture show.

I'm a blithering idiot. I know the State Fair of Texas begins the last week of September. Happens every year no matter what. February is perfect welding weather. Am I out there making a piece for the Fair? Nope, putzin' around day dreaming while rummaging through my metal, pretending I'm cleaning up my shop and the back yard. Not.

This year I planned to do 3 pieces. I did finish one. But Bob was out of town and instead of waiting for his return to ask him out to make this piece move I decided to plow ahead. It moves, a little. Here's the cute part, you can lift up the moving part and take it home with you as a parting gift from the Fair. Had Bob been home and I asked him how to make this piece move, he would have figured out how it could move. But Bob would think ahead and design the piece someone walking by could NOT lift up and take home. So scratch that piece for the Fair.

The other two pieces I kept putting off finishing because of the rain. Like metal melts? Like I melt?

Earlier tonight Bob said, "Take a break, perhaps clean up a bit and I'll take you to Mi Cocina." Great, except clean up a "bit?" - I needed someone to hose me down. The restaurant was busy, but we were seated pretty fast. When I squeezed the lemon for my ice tea every cut on my hands from days of cutting glass SCREAMED. The rest of the evening was lovely. Home and back to glass cutting. I spend nearly as much time cleaning up blood as cutting glass.

Now here I sit waiting. Do you know what's on TV at 3:00 am? Infomercials. What's scary is I think I really might need that weird curling iron with the red light inside it. Maybe I better go back outside. Night night

Monday article

Don't miss Monday's article:

I took my first State Fair piece to the powder coaters today. Took my camera, forgot to take a single picture. Only takes over an hour to get there. Almost to Oklahoma. The piece looks great. Now I have to make 3 mosaic hearts and a base to finish it. Took them the totem to powdercoat. Might remember the camera and then remember to take pictures out there when I pick up the totem. Or not.

Tiling the Floor

This is the floor behind the bar are in our home. We had carpet back there and drinks have been spilled in the last 15 years, but our Miss Calico decided in the last few weeks this would be her personal litter box. NOPE. She's now an outdoor cat and I pulled out the carpet and am tiling the floor. Cynthia gave me pretty green/gray tile left over from her bathroom and I had three squares of the pink broken tile. I cut cut cut with my tile saw making every tile fit and then showed Bob who had a few suggestions. Note the floor with the black tile. Much better. Had to cut cut cut tile again, but worth it. That little tile saw has been such a trooper through so many projects. Today I'm going to start thin setting. If that happens, next week - grout. Do not worry Monte, there are plenty surfaces left in the house I haven't turn into a mosaic project.

Garden Art on Garden Tour

Two Robert Bellamy pieces were on the tour at Jimmy's house. I thought Jimmy said he had two mosaic pots, but didn't see the other one. Last year the Garden Club Girls went to Mr. Bellamy's place for lunch. The night before was my first welding class of that semester. There was this very attractive girl, Staci, with a pink feather in her hair, big pretend dangle drop earrings, pink lipstick and pink nails. She was welding away. Of course, this was someone I had to meet. We hit it right off.

Next day was the Bellamy field trip and I find Staci heads up the whole Bellamy group. I talk her into doing a totem for the State Fair of Texas. She delivers a fabulous piece. And she's doing one for me this year again. Such a small world.

Bowling in the Garden

Unseasonably warm weather created the unique "perfect storm" for mosaic bowling balls. The balls crashed around the back yard simultaneously creating havoc with the stationary non-mosaic balls. The mosaic balls rammed and slammed into the unsuspecting naked balls reducing them to tears as they huddled between bare root plants. One lone bowling pin stood up to the balls only to be crushed beneath the weight of cheap china parts. No tears were shed for the rogue balls or the coward balls still hiding.

BlackJack will be out first thing in the morning to mark the winner.

It's All About Larry/Randy

It's all about Larry/Randy. I've told you about the name confusion with Randy/Larry or Larry/Randy, but I haven't mentioned what a great guy he is. One of my best days was meeting Randy at the State Fair of Texas to ride the Skyway he'd just put in. We ran into Leslye and Lorie and all rode together. Then Lorie got a great picture of me in Bob's museum fountain garden. I'm standing in the garden pointing like Vanna White to my mosaic sculptures when the sprinklers come on and she caught exactly that. I love that garden. Only problem is it's so big with the museum flags flying above you can't get all of it in one picture. Course I think they should rename it "Bob's Fountain @ the State Fair of Texas". I'll start a write in.

Lorie and Leslie didn't attend our Christmas party this year and I haven't talked to her to find out why. Anyway, after the Fair, Bob and I took Randy/Larry to Patricios for Italian and had a great lunch. I know, all that food at the Fair and we go out, but hey, it's Patricios and we always take out of towners there.

Here's some pictures of Randy/Larry in our booth at the IAAPA trade show. First picture has Lars' friend Paul in it. He's an interesting guy. More about him later. This is all about Randy/Larry who was so instrumental in getting the Skyway to the State Fair of Texas. Hopefully Bob and Larry will be involved in more projects. Seems like we are around friends more when Bob's doing business with them.

State Fair of Texas Artist - Chris

Here's Chris, featured sculpture artist for today.  He is so talented and busy with work and his art.  I thought I'd have to walk over to his house and beg him to be in the State Fair of Texas sculpture show.  Before I could get to the whining part, he just said yes.  What a coo (is that a word?) for me!  Chris is also on the White Rock Lake Artist's Studio Tour which is October 18 and 19.  I knew he'd be overwhelmed and can't believe he agreed so quickly.  His piece will be spectacular.

Here's the sad part.  I can't figure out a way to get his wife, Carol, in the show.  Carol is an artist in the kitchen.  My darling Bob had to go to Moscow for a week about 10 years ago.  He lived on beets.  Beets as soup, beets as meat, beets as vegetable, beets as dessert, and he was eating in "5 star?" restaurants.  He swore he'd never eat beets again.  Chris and Carol have us over for dinner one night.  She serves beets.  Bob's wolfs them down, told her they were delicious and then asks what he just ate.  Carol didn't know Bob had a giant fear of beets.  I'm going to work on how to turn her creations into a piece of sculpture for next year's show.  Perhaps bronze some of her beets?  No, I see them in a mosaic creation.
