Ronnie, Bonnie and LuLu

Saw Ronnie, Bonnie and LuLu tonight when Bob and I took BlackJack on his walk. They are sooooooo cute. Ronnie feels comfortable enough with BlackJack now not to pick up LuLu.

Ronnie is our human neighbor, Bonnie his dog and LuLu is Bonnie's goose. LuLu follows Bonnie anywhere. Bonnie follows Ronnie and off they go in the opposite direction for their walk. We are talking cute. I'm going to interview them for the next neighborhood newsletter. I'd like to try to make a video of them walking single file down our street and post it on the Forest Hills website.

Do we live in the coolest neighborhood with the best neighbors or what? And I include Barbaree in my neighborhood even tho I live on the wrong side of the tracks.

More parade pictures

Fabulous Forest Hills webmaster Sharon is going to post all my pictures along with other neighbors on www.ForestHillsDallas.org. I think it will run as a slide show. In the meantime here's more of my pictures. Cute neighbors, huh? (I'm posting these because I did nothing on my State Fair pieces today. Well, I did go to King Architectural Metal to buy some metal, maybe that counts? The weather is so delightful, who wouldn't want to bundle up and go out in the back yard and play with fire? I plan to get up really really early in the morning. Stop laughing! Enjoy the pictures. Hopefully Chapters in Metal tomorrow.

More pictures and a little commentary

We continue with the 4th of July parade in Forest Hills. I sent my Examiner.com article to White Rock Lake Weekly along with some parade pictures. They generously put in the picture of Judy and Lucy with our favorite patrol car and the wonderful poster the girls made for it. My article was in the middle of some other other article that started with Lakehill news. Please, as much money as Bob and I gave Lakehill for our son's 13 years there, well - do I have to share article space with them? Whatever. No the child didn't flunk a grade, he went to kindergarten there, too. I want credit for paying the full 13 years. Looking back isn't an education overrated? But I digress. Also wanted to mention I got no bi line either. But check it out, the girls are too cute.

Yes, a bit cranky tonight. More computer problems. Our modem died as it does every year at this time. Love complaining to the AT&T people who replied, "yes, the modems last about a year." Swell. Got it installed and still problems. Bob and I have always said we need a wife, someone to cook, clean and buy groceries. Forget that - we need a live in computer tech, well maybe a 3 hour a day computer tech and then then he/she goes away.

If anyone recognizes the pretty lady taking pictures, please let me know who she is. We'd love to get copies of her pictures.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY

Kudos to Tamela and Shelly and their band of volunteers for putting together yet another wonderful 4th of July parade and picnic for Forest Hills. Attendance beat last year which beat the year before that. And a good time was had by all.

I must tell you Barb turned to me while riding we were riding in the Cow Car and said, "Isn't it wondeful we have neighbors from Little Forest Hills and Casa Linda?" We both think it's because of the garden tour where the 3 neighborhoods come together. Max and Denise (co Presidents of Little Forest Hills) won the GRAND PRIZE for the float. We were delighted Sharon and Bob (Garden Tour Grand Czar and Czarina) were here for us. If we could have we'd have been at the LFH parade yesterday, won't miss it next year.

Is this the best place to live? Yup. Enjoy today's and many future days of parade pictures.

Missed the grand prize

Check out the Dybala family and friends party last night:

http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-15499-Dallas-Gardening-Humor-Examiner~y2010m6d19-Dybala-family-and-friends-party

Juli sent us a message today, "Bob Number 5" the pigeon won the race last night. My Bob bet on him and his name was drawn. Would you believe you had to be there to win? Of course, we had to leave early because of my extreme fear of dusk mosquito attacks to my person.

I sprayed half a bottle of Deep Woods OFF, was wearing my OFF fan and treating what bites I had with Campo phinique (sp). Not only do the mosquitoes love me more at dusk, but in the last few years I've turned an unsightly shade of green from so much OFF spray and dusk seems to make me greener, not in a pretty way.

Juli said the prize was a t-shirt and pigeon poop. The last time Bob had pigeon poop a pigeon dive bombed him at The Statue of Liberty when we were waiting in line to get in. I'm thinking of designing and sewing an outfit like a beekeeper's so Bob and I don't have to leave when the little kids are asked to go inside.

Artists and Fairy Tales on the tour

Let's start talking about artists on the White Rock East Garden & ARTISANS' Tour. Here's one of my absolute favorites, Cynthia Daniel. Cynthia and I joined the Texas Sculpture Association board almost 3 years ago. With no experience or preparation we started curating shows for the TSA. Talk about learn through doing. But we put on some pretty good shows with some great artists. When she's not curating shows; she's welding, fusing glass and mosaicing with her incredible talent. She's on the tour. We're in the same garden. When she's busy talking to someone I tell everyone her art is mine to make me look good. Come see us. And remember, the art is for sale.

And a shameless plug. Double click on http://www.examiner.com/x-15499-Dallas-Gardening-Humor-Examiner~y2010m5d12-White-Rock-East-Garden--Artisans-Tour to read my article about Jessica and her Magic Dragonfly. You'll meet both on the tour.

Garden Tour and State Fair artists

Today the Discovery Garden's administrator at Fair Park, Melissa, gave me a tour of the Butterfly House and offered the facility for more places for sculptures during the State Fair of Texas. Several of our Garden Tour artists are also my State Fair artists. What a great time for you to get a preview of their work.

Look for sisters Elizabeth Bingham and Lynn Reagan, Cynthia Daniel, Andie Comini and our tour art czar Betsy Doan in the gardens during the tour. Me, too, if I can inspire my welder to get moving. I'll post which garden each artist will be showing in when we get closer to tour time.

Visit the White Rock Lake Garden & Artisans' Tour Sunday, May 23, from 11:00 to 5:00.

Check my web site: www.lottieminick.com for a big map of the gardens in the 3 neighborhoods.

Congratulations, Katrina

Our very own Katrina got the job done and Sanger Elementary has a garden. Sure there was a long list of thank you's in the auditorium, but we all know she got this done.

Katrina, Mark and Jessica - Forest Hills is so lucky to have them.

Barbaree Babes and Andie's neighborhood Animal Alert

Barbaree Babes met at Carol's last night. We voted on our very own neighborhood Animal Alert as our charity for Christmas and the rest of the year. Might have a fund raiser during the year.

Carol had great treats for us, everyone talked at once and a good time was had. We always need a project and Animal Alert will be the best.

Pretty Gardens

Happened to be in the Preston Hollow area of town last week and had my camera. Stopped to take a picture of the this house's beautiful landscaping. Both pictures are of same house. I wonder if they do "Yard Of The Month" like we do here in Forest Hills?

Don't forget to check out Lottie Logic by clicking on a couple of my articles on Examiner.com.

Forest Hills Garden Club

The Forest Hills Garden Club kicked off the new year at Barb's house last night and we look fabulous as you can see here. Barb and Abbie provided delicious food including Barb's recently won State Fair of Texas blue ribbon salsa made with her giant cucumbers like the one Judy's holding. This was Cynthia's first meeting. I know she wants to be a member, but it didn't hurt her first meeting was at Barb's. She's been hearing about John and Barb's house forever. I graciously invited John to come with me to give the tour of his house. John is only official Garden Club Guy.

After business part of the program Barb explained how she preserves flowers and leaves and showed us examples of her framed and in progress pieces. She even makes cards with pressed flowers. One, a large caladium leaf looks almost antiqued.

Maggie, first on the left, visited because she wants to start a garden club in her neighborhood. along with our Animal Alert program, I guess we are becoming a prototype for garden clubs, too. As Barb, our heart of the garden club says, "We're not your mother's garden club."
