Continuing State Fair Pictures

More wonderful State Fair of Texas Sculptures in the totem garden.  First is Cynthia's delightful flamingo.  Then Chere and Jack's incredible totem.  Barbara's Fairy Tree.

When Hardy and Jeff and I were out the other day, we were talking about the pieces and the artist/friends.  You know, whey they agreed to make a piece for the Fair, not one artist just "threw" something together.  All came with extraordinary pieces we are all so proud of.  I think every picture I've posted of the sculptures proves how special these friends and their pieces are.  I'm so proud and impressed.  Life is good when you have good friends.

To the State Fair with Hardy and Jeff

Hardy and I met Jeff from ModernDallasWeekly yesterday at the State Fair for a tour of the sculpture garden. He's great and Hardy is going to do a piece or two for him. Jeff and Hardy may cook something up together. They are both creative and would do cool things together. Hardy took this picture of Jeff and me.

Then Hardy and I went to see Melanie. She gave Hardy his gold pass and me some tickets. I've given out so many to Call To Artists folks, I had none for my customers. I'm hoping next year to get more Call to Artists, but the ones like Sharon at ArtGroupsDFW have been very good to me with this show and others.

Several artists called or emailed me that the bottom sign on my totem fell out and I needed to go out and glue it in. I of course forgot, but guess what? Someone had popped it back in. Thank you, whoever you are.

Even with really humid weather and raindrops, I must say the sculptures looked terrific in the landscaped gardens and totem garden. And again, I can't get over how respectful the Fairgoers are of the pieces. Amazing. I'm just swimming in the good will of all this. Life is highs and lows, enjoy the sweet times.

Spotlight on Juli Hulsy

We're not in Kansas anymore Toto,we're in TOTEM LAND.  Here's Juli with her fabulous totem for the State Fair Totem Garden.  This is a gigantic pvc pipe she's had in her yard for some time and she's doing this incredible mosaic work on it.  She told me one little fish was 125 pieces all individually grinded.  Pretty special.  Juli's done a lot since this photo and I need to go over with my camera, but my totem is in the back yard SCREAMING at me to finish.  I'd like to open the windows in the bedroom tonight since it's so nice and cool outside, but I'm afraid the totem will slink over to our window and whisper scary words like - NINE DAYS TO INSTALLATION.  Inanimate objects have always scared me, but not as much as deadlines.

State Fair of Texas Art Show

Here we go.  Sissy, Lynn and Andrew working on their totem for this year's State Fair of Texas art show.  The theme for this year's Fair is the 5 senses and this piece they are working on is touch ( a big thumb).  I hope to give you pictures in progress of this wonderful totem.  

At last count I had 26 totem artists and 24 sculpture artists.  That's not an accurate count for the pieces since some artists are doing totems and sculpture pieces.  

Today I rode with Rusty and Rebecca while we looked at sites.  The totem garden will be in front of the lagoon with "sculptor's way" going from there to the museum walk through fountain Bob designed.  

I'm hoping this show will be spectacular, but most important to prove it's success, pieces sell.

The State Fair starts September 26.  We are in countdown.
