4th of July flight of the bounce house

We filled it with helium.  Let a few kids tie themselves to the towers.  Parade dads gave it a boost from below and with a bit of wind - Flight of the Bounce House - leading the parade.  Over the fire truck, past the police car, into the treetops toward the lake.  Who knew one of the ankle biters tied to a tower wore cowboy boots with spurs?  And he's a kicker?
You guessed it, just as the wind carried Bounce House to the middle of the lake.  Except for a shark eating the ankle biter, all was not lost.  Sea horses carried the rest of the children to shore.  Mermaids restored Bounce House and made it a safe house for wanna be flying fish. Happy ending.
Till next 4th of July.

Tomorrow's the 4th of July

Tomorrow's the 4th of July.
Our neighborhood parade starts at 10:00.  Picnic for all courtesy of one of our most generous families.  Games for the children and a bounce house.  Hope it doesn't fly away, but a big balloon house flying over would be great.  Kids inside would win the coolest summer story.
Many years ago the fire truck left us for a fire right after the parade started.  Happened again the very next year.  Now I walk in front of the truck leading the parade.  Stopped that nonsense.
Happy 4th of July East Dallas and USA.

Doug trying to be the next neighborhood FLASH. Of course one of our all time favorites - the Cocktail Wiener Dog. Golf cart driving dog once knocked me down, but hey, I shouldn't be such an easy target.

4th of July Parade in Forest Hills

The Forest Hills 4th of July Parade was a stunning success. Tamela and Shelly put this wonderful event together along with their volunteers, sponsors, participants and spectators. A wonderful time was had after the parade in the Keller lot where everyone gathered for food, fun, bubble bounce and awards. More volunteers showed, worked and had fun than I can remember. Kinda made my heart skip a beat with the patriotism and neighbor's smiles.

Only a Couple More Depressing Pictures

I'm not going to continue with depressing pictures, just seems my street was really hit hard. I know everyone thinks it's their street, but........ Look for two articles about our storm, one in www.eastdallasblog.dallasnews.com and the other in www.blackwhiteread.com.

Last night after Jan's dinner party for Cynthia's birthday, Bob and I set out on the BlackJack walk. A police car was in the road half a block down with the headlights and those really bright lights on top blinding us. We walked toward the blinding light and Sargent Rod hopped out of the car. I said "Hi" and was about to ask why he was blinding us when I realized he was on police business with 3 gentleman standing on the other side of his car. Here we are on our nightly walk and instead of neighbors and their dogs with us, there's 3 guys we know shouldn't be there. But all's OK, because Sargent Rod's on the job.

And that's how 3 very stressful days in the neighborhood ends. Sargent Rod and his most terrific neighborhood patrol are looking out for us, taking care of us, making the world safe for us and most important giving us peace of mind. My little world is back to normal, thanks to Sargent Rod and crew.

Meet several of our officers when Forest Hills hosts our most patriotic 4th of July parade, Saturday, July 4th. We're baaaaaack - Small Town, USA. Check out the Forest Hills website for more information on the parade. www.foresthillsdallas.org

Tamela and the Men Who Keep Us Safe

Tamela is the powerhouse who put our Forest Hills Memorial Day Parade together.  We thank her and her team for all their hard work.  Tamela solicited sponsors, parade volunteers, followed through and made the parade a tribute to our three World War II veterans and all veterans.  I knew when she was reporting her work on the parade at the last board meeting she had everything under control and this would be a great event.  For all who supported Tamela in her GREAT ENDEAVOR, thank you.  And we all thank you, Tamela.

Super Hero Crime Buster Girls & neighobrs attending the Parade

I asked our Super Hero Crime Buster Girls what on earth they were doing in these outfits.  I'm sure they thought I was critiquing the fashion statement.  No, I was wondering why there weren't in shorts.

Today was 140 degrees with a heat index of 180 degrees.  Apparently heat does not discourage our Super Hero Crime Busters Girls.  (They probably don't even sweat.)  Speaking as a Hot Flash Girl, I'm just envious.

More fashionable parade attendees to come, 125 pictures take a while to post.  Keep watching for a picture of you and people you know.  Send me names of people and I'll repost with names.

More Parade Pictures

I took 125 pictures, keep checking in for more to be posted.
