2008 White Rock East Garden & Artisans Tour

2008 White Rock East Garden & Artisans Tour
What could be more fun than spending Sunday afternoon (May 18, from 11:00 to 5:00) in some of the most beautiful gardens in Dallas? Nine creative gardens in Casa Linda Estates, Little Forest Hills and forest Hills will be showcased this year, featuring beautiful pools, fun children's areas, lavish outdoor entertaining venues, fun and funky art and incredible landscaping, trees, and flowers.

Each garden will feature local artists selling their unique creations. Neighborhood gardeners have been contributing their favorite plants, shrubs, ground covers and flowering plants to our annual plant sale and Master Gardeners will be on hand to give you advice about how these plants will work in your garden. It's free, fun and will inspire you to work in your garden. And don't forget to buy raffle tickets (for sale in each garden) for your chance to win prizes from restaurants, nurseries and a special grand prize. Proceeds will be divided between each neighborhood for beautification.

The White Rock East Garden & Artisans Tour is the weekend after this one, Sunday, May 18 from 11:00 to 5:00.

The tour is free. There will be local artists selling their art in each of the gardens. Proceeds from tour donations and raffle tickets are split between the 3 neighborhoods for their beautification programs. In my opinion it's the neighborhood party of the year.

Garden Club Field Trip @ Robert Bellamy's

Barb arranged for the Garden Club to go on a field trip to Robert Bellamy's wonderful garden. I've been on his web site and knew I'd love it, but before we went in I was delighted. Barb had a clicker and opened the big metal gate. Then it was mecca for me. This picture is a window of a metal piece with fused glass inside. I'll have more pictures soon.

Since I'm still afraid of the welding torch when I'm home alone, I decided to take a beginner class with Dan at the Creative Art's Center. There was this wonderful girl there. She was very pretty, blond with a pink feather in her hair and rhinestone drop earrings. Her dark welding glasses had rhinestones all over them. I told her I loved them and she said she made them. OK! This is someone I instantly liked. Unfortunatley, this was a makeup class for her, she isn't enrolled in my session.

When class was over we finally introduced ourselves. I slur my name so I always spell it. She spelled her's Staci "with an i". What a shame I wouldn't be seeing her again.

As our garden club field trip was wrapping up, Barb said, "Come with me to the office, Staci, with an I, wants to say hello. Small world! Staci looked fabulous with all her bling and gave us a back tour and her card. I'm trying to get her to volunteer for the White Rock East Garden Tour, May 18th, Sunday from 11:00 to 5:00. If she's in town she said she would. Everyone will love her and she'll have a great time.

White Rock East Garden/Artistans Tour

Sunday, May 18th, from 11:00 to 5:00, Forest Hills, Little Forest Hills and Casa Linda nieghborhoods are the place to be for the garden/artist tour. The artists I asked to participate last year will be back along with a few others. They've been working on pieces for the sale for months. Friends from Fort Worth I insisted on coming last year, (who didn't want to drive over) asked me months ago for the date this year so they could put it on their calendar. The plant sale will be across the street from the garden I'll be displaying my art. My garden is 8407 San Pedro Parkway. Every plant I've bought at the sale during the years has survived in my garden. That's a big statement for the killer plant queen.

Best part - the tour is free. We have raffle tickets to purchase and accept donations.

April Forest Hills Garden Club

This month's garden club was held at Jane's house and it's always one of my favorite meetings. I was late, so had a chance to walk from the street and down her driveway by myself. Her large trees and beautiful yard give you that AHHHHHH moment. I'll bet on one of our 100 degree days walking in her yard is still a treat. Everywhere you looked was pretty foliage in every shade of green. Jane's yard by itself is art. Oh, the meeting was delightful, too.

March Garden Club meeting

March Forest Hills Garden Club meeting was at Mary Ehrenberger's home. I had a Texas Sculpture Association board meeting the same night so I only dropped in for a minute to see her lovely home and yard. Her yard will be featured on the May 18th Garden Tour and by the time the date rolls around her plants will be flourishing. Here's a "before" picture of her back yard with her husband John and son Jonathan in front her greenhouse. I'll be sure and post "after" pictures on the day of the tour.
