Coffee News, thank you Ronda Kay Moreland

I just sent the following to Ronda Kay Moreland of Coffee News. She has so graciously given us not only a place in What's Happening for the White Rock East Garden & Artisans Tour, but she's also giving us another space with Lynn's picture, shown here, and the following blurb:

Thank you Ronda Kay

Lynn Reagan, demonstrating her mosaic tile techniques during last year's White Rock East Garden & Artisan's Tour. Lynn, a long time resident and community volunteer of Little Forest Hills and owner of "Let Lynn Do It" is one of the original tour organizers. Lynn will be in the garden again this year selling her beautiful original artwork. See more about the upcoming tour on: www.eastdallasartgardens.blogspot.com

Hope this is short and sweet enough. I didn't add tour information since you'll have it on the same page close by.

Rhonda, I truly appreciate you going the extra mile for us. I sent a note to all the tour people and will be sure and bring up your generosity at every meeting. Also putting this picture on the blog again and telling all about you doing this for us.

I don't know if there's room for the garden addresses, but in case, here they are. I understand if there's no room.

East Dallas Art Gardens

Here's some roses in an East Dallas garden I really love. MINE!

I don't know if my grandmother, mother, aunts or great aunts gave them to me and they all traded flowers so much they wouldn't know either. These are old roses. I don't know their name. They bloom all at once in clumps and then they're gone for a while continuing on like that all through the blooming season. The best part is they smell like a rose. No, the best part is they make me smile every time I look at them and remember the wonderful ladies who enjoyed them in their yards. The garden fairies who watch over me and the roses are those ladies looking down on me. They keep me safe while I weld.

I kept the roses in pots forever worried if I messed with them they would die. Nope. Now one year after planting them, they've exploded and sort of take care of themselves. Same with the Japanese Maple Barb gave me. Kept in a pot, then transferred to a larger pot. Only a month ago had the nerve to plant it. Hopefully, my garden fairies will help it explode with happiness, too.

Aren't "given" plants the best?

Mason's Crawfish Boil

Two "ToDo's" tonight. Crawfish Boil at the Mason's and Deep Ellum Art Walk where I had 2 pieces featured at Chi Gallery.

Let's see - crawfish vs. art? Crawfish!

When I said goodbye to Donna and thanked her, I asked her if she thought I should shower before going to gallery. She said, "Yes, you smell of crawfish." We had several people over to go to Gallery Walk with us. Bob took them out to eat while I was at the Mason's. When I walked in the house, I announced I needed to shower fast since I smell of crawfish. My darling son, who drove in for gallery night (and a party he was going to later) said, "No, Mom, you reek of crawfish." I'm happiest when I REEK of crawfish.

The gallery event was good, but the crawfish boil was terrific. Jeff cooks them to perfection. Thank goodness for the gallery opening or Jeff would have had to physically removed me from the crawfish table. No. Even Jeff's not big enough to do that - I would have been the last CAJUN standing. Let me add here, that in order not to embarrass myself, I had a big bowl of Blue Bell Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream before I left to go to the Masons so I'd be partially full.

I guess next year I should offer to work setting up the tents or something to be sure my invitation doesn't get lost in the mail.

This is a good time to say my prayer to the CAJUN/CRAWFISH gods like I do every night before I go to sleep - "When I die may my mouth be full of boiled crawfish."

Preview Pictures, White Rock East Garden & Artisans Tour

Lucky you, getting a more preview pictures of the White Rock East Garden & Artisans Tour, May 17, from 11:00 to 5:00. Do you love Jeff's bamboo water feature? I look at my back yard and sigh when I look at these pictures. Maybe some day. Come to the tour and make notes, so many ideas, so much fun.

Monday, Karen (star reporter) and I visited some of the gardens that will be featured on the White Rock East Garden & Artisans Tour, May 17th from 11:00 to 5:00. Got lucky and some homeowner's were home. We knocked on doors and when no answer snuck into some gardens. Karen's idea, of course. I would never sneak in someone's yard unless Karen was pushing me.

Here's Donna and Jeff on their swing. Their yard is amazing just from the last time I was there. Jeff's built a great new back gate. I'll have a picture of him with his gate soon. They've put in a bamboo water feature everyone's going to want, I do. Don't miss this yard, very zen.

We stopped by another garden and Susan was home across the street. Her garden should be on the tour, I'll campaign for her next year. Oh, and the vase on the column - well you'll have attend the White Rock East Garden & Artisan's Tour, May 17 from 11:00 to 5:00 to find it in person, same with these beautiful poppies. The pictures don't do justice to the poppies.

Unusual Occurances

No pictures, just news of today. I asked Rick if he would please put the scroll saw I bought at a garage sale 3 years ago together and make it work and show me how to operate it. He did and I thanked him. While he was putting it together, I started my whine about my dremel. The one that's been hiding from me for at least 6 months. While whining I started to clean out my shop a bit. Rick walked in and said, "What's that hanging on the wall behind that stuff?" My dremel! Cynthia will be more pleased than me, because she won't have to listen to me whining about the missing dremel. I lust for a holder for the dremel like Juli's that turned it into a drill press. Couldn't lust too much with a missing dremel.

Cleaned up to go with Bob to the Apple store for some questions. They answered all so we decided to go to LaMadeline for a salad. As we walked from the parking lot, Bob walked back to the car to be sure he'd locked it. I continued toward the restaurant. Beautiful day. I glance at a man sitting at one of the outdoor tables. The man is John Dibs. Bob walks up and I say to him, "There's John Dibs." Bob nods. The unusual part of this is John has been dead quite a few years. I look at John again and he looks up at me. He knows I know. I know he knows I know.
Bob and I walk into LaMadeline. The people in front of us insist we go ahead of them. We do and I say to Bob, "I'm going outside. That's really John Dibs and I'm going to talk to him." I put my tray on the rack and run outside. John's gone - with no trace he was ever there. The newspaper he was reading, gone. The dishes in front of him, gone. I look around and not a soul in site. Less than a minute I was inside.

Do you watch Saving Grace? Who's your favorite character? Earl the angel? Me, too. This was like an Earl appearance. We got our food and sat outside and I called Pam (John's second, wife. Pam's second husband.) No one home. I'll call again tonight and tell Pam it really was John. Oh, my, as with Earl, we will just be glad John's here. I will forever watch that table.

Snider Plaza Art Walk

Snider Plaza Art Walk came about because Max visited the State Fair of Texas and called the office asking how to get in touch with the artists. Melanie gave him my number. This is the State Fair show revisited, except Cynthia did all the work. The show can accommodate some indoor pieces we could not have at the Fair, like Nan's glass piece. Monica's "Animals of Texas" was a big success at the Fair and will be in Snider Plaza also. This glass piece says, "Brad Abrams". Max particularly requested Cynthia's flaming from the Fair. Please be sure and go to Snider Plaza, walk around and enjoy the art - perhaps buy some from fabulous local artists. These pictures were taken during the art walk reception and I must tell you Max put on a reception like we've never seen before. We will follow him anywhere. Good karma will follow you while you walk about enjoying the art.

White Rock East Garden & Artisans Tour - Save the Date

Here's Shelly admiring Mary's wonderful greenhouse in Mary's back yard. John told me the door to the greenhouse is the front door of a house they once owned. Pretty cool.

White Rock East Garden & Artisans Tour, last year pictures

Today's pictures are a mishmash of last year's tour, this year's tour and my fabulous bowling ball that should be on every tour, but is not asked. An oversight I'm sure. Maybe if I weld a special stand for it? Welding brings out the best in everyone, even bowling balls.

Don't you love Mary's stacked pots that make a stand for her garden sculpture? I told myself I was stealing that idea and here it is a year later and I haven't made myself a stacked pot stand.

The fountain picture is a sneak preview of a wonderful garden on this year's tour. Yes, a teaser. You really really don't want to miss this year's tour as that fountain proves.

Saw Lola today. Told her she's doing the commentary on the garden tour preview night video. Her response? "I'll dress better!" Gotta love her. Once again a solid year has gone by and have we progressed with Lola starring in "The Barbaree Beat"? Nooooooooooo But this might be our year. Hey maybe if my bowling ball sneaks in this year's video and future videos, it could be our mascot and get us on Oprah!

Last Year Garden Tour pictures

Pretty pictures of last year's White Rock East Garden & Artisan's Tour. You get to guess which yards. Two of my favorites.

Tonight was the Snider Plaza Art Walk. I took tons of pictures, but missed out on a great one. Vince showed up with Laurie and Julie and I could have had another picture of my Boy Babe, Husband and me - in different outfits and another event. Babes and Garden Girls would be jealous! Bobbi already wrote about that. Being my second twin, and the baby twin, you know I share with her. I think Snider Plaza Art Walk was a great success. You missed fun if you weren't there.

Tomorrow night I'll put garden addresses on so you can save the date and locations.

May 17, 11:00 to 5:00 Garden Tour

I don't know who this woman is, but I had to take her picture during the White Rock East Garden & Artisans Tour last year. Is she not perfect on a billboard advertising garden tours? If you know her let me know, I want to personally invite her next year.

Sunday, May 17th, from 11:00 to 5:00 pm is the 8th annual White Rock East Garden & Artisans Tour. The tour encompasses Forest Hills, Little Forest Hills and Casa Linda Estates. Each neighborhood features three gardens with local artists showcasing their art and a plant sale next to one of the gardens. The White Rock East Garden & Artisans Tour is the only free garden tour in Dallas. Proceeds from the raffle, plant sale and donations are divided between the three neighborhoods and designated for beautification.
